Perusing my Google reader and found an interesting post from Delta’s blog. It seems that April 2012 is the 25th anniversary of Delta’s MD-80 operation. According to the post, Delta’s first MD-80 passenger flight took to the skies on April 1, 1987. Delta’s first MD-80’s were of the MD-82 variety, an earlier model that many of us AA flyers of come to know and love (or loathe) depending on your perspective. Later deliveries were updated MD-88 models, and Delta’s first MD-82’s were converted to MD-88’s over time.
I find Delta’s MD-88’s to be quiet, comfortable, and more modern feeling than some other airline MD-80’s I’ve flown. The extra investment Delta made in modernized interiors shows. Anyway, this concludes my airplane geek post for the day. đŸ™‚
I like the the MD-88. It’s is my most common aircraft, well, on my flight memory at least, which discounts all those flights from my childhood I’ve forgotten about. And I like it too. It’s got a two-fer for my wife and me, good upgrade chances, it’s a solid plane.
