Royal Caribbean International is now offering unlimited internet packages for purchase before you board your cruise. I was just shopping for some other amenities for our upcoming Enchantment of the Seas cruise when this caught my eye.
Just for grins, I decided to run through the purchase process. It’s very easy, and the pricing is somewhat reasonable at $20 per day for one device. A two-device package is $30 per day. I’m assuming for the time being that the packages work somewhat like those available on Quantum of the Seas in that I can log off one device and onto another device as needed. In other words, I can keep my smartphone connected part of the time, and when I need to work on the computer, I can log off the smartphone and onto my computer using the same package. According to a poster on Cruise Critic, ships equipped with Royal’s fastest internet are offering the packages at $15 per day for one device and $22.50 for two.
I really like the idea of unlimited internet packages. They enable me to manage costs going into the trip. While most cruises are vacation for me, it is rarely possible for me to just disappear from the grid for days at a time. The other good thing about being able to buy internet packages in advance is that I can charge it to my business card (or my Sapphire Preferred card for 2X UR points đŸ˜‰ )separately from my other onboard expenses. This enables me to better account for legitimate business expenses vs. being mixed in with the spa and bar bill.
Bottom line – good move by Royal Caribbean. Get ready for more selfies from your friends on cruises.

Okay thank you. I was hoping that the other poster, Guillermo was going to confirm that he was able to use multiple devices on Serenade, but I guess he is not even back yet from his cruise! I hope you are correct and that it is not just on Quantum! I will report back when I return from my trip and advise.
Nancy, I am onboard Enchantment now. Just this morning I logged off the Internet using my iPhone then logged on with my MacBook. After I was done with that, I logged off then back on with my iPhone.
Does anyone know if you can log off one device and then use another? We are leaving on August 23rd on Independence of the Seas. I just called Cruises Only [we booked thru them] and was told you can only use ONE device because they register the IP address from your iPhone. If you want to use your iPad or laptop, you have to purchase the 2 device package. So…….not sure what the deal is. It would certainly be a more attractive deal if you can use multiple devices interchangeably.

Can you confirm that you can log off with one device and log in with another with the same account? It is possible to buy the package in the ship or you have to buy it before boarding? I will be traveling on Aug 15th on the Serenade of the Seas

I was able to do so on Quantum of the Seas, so I’d assume the same will be possible across the fleet. However, I can’t guarantee that. Will try and find out.
Wow, Allure in drydock already??? We’ve done Allure twice, I cannot imagine what has been done to improve this ship, as it was already awesome! If you’re doing a transatlantic, then this is the ship be on! I would love to hear your comparisons of Quantum vs. Allure when you also do your comparison of before / after drydock of Allure. @Sandy, we’re on Allure of the Seas. We’ve sailed on that ship before, but she received a fairly substantial renovation in drydock a few months ago, so it will be interesting to compare to our previous cruise. Some friends of ours are going with us, and I’m expecting we’ll have a good time. Hopeful for decent weather during the crossing.
I do agree that probably a 12 day (or anything longer, for that matter) is when internet access could be a good thing. Especially on a trans-atlantic when there are no ports in between long days at sea. I guess maybe I should have been clearer when I was writing about more of a week- long cruise vacation, where I didn’t feel that amount of time was too long to be without internet access. I completely disagree with you, sorry. Don’t know if I speak for the majority or not, but I, for one, can do without trying to navigate around all the people taking selfies and walking with their faces buried in their phones or whatever device they just can’t do without. I get that some people just have to be able to touch bases with home or work on occasion while away, but really, if you need access 24/ 7, then maybe one shouldn’t be on a cruise ship??? I find myself forcing “digital detox” days or partial days on some cruises. If I had Quantum to do over, I would have sworn off trying to blog from the ship. That vacation was a long time coming for me, and I felt like I worked half the time. I’ve decided that I’m not likely buying a full internet package for my upcoming short cruise on Enchantment (need a digital detox), but I surely will for the trans-Atlantic this fall. 12 days is just too long not to check in.
